If your child is struggling with attention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity, an ADHD assessment may be appropriate. If you are noticing difficulties with social communication, sensory sensitivities, rigid routines, or differences in how your child interacts with others, an autism assessment may be more relevant.
Many children show features of both — in that case, we offer a combined assessment. Our guidance tool on the homepage can help point you in the right direction, or simply register and we will advise you on the most appropriate service.
No. You can contact us directly without a GP referral. Simply complete the New Patient Registration form and we will respond the same or next working day to confirm next steps.
We assess children and adolescents. Please contact us with your child's specific age and concerns and we will confirm whether we are the right service for them.
All assessments and consultations are conducted remotely via secure video call. This means we can see families from anywhere in the UK, from the comfort of your own home. No travel, no waiting rooms.
ADHD assessments are completed in a single 1.5-hour appointment, with a diagnostic report provided the same day.
Autism assessments involve two appointments — the ADI-R parental interview and the ADOS observation — which can be scheduled on the same day.
From registration to report, the process typically takes one to three weeks depending on availability and how quickly the questionnaires are returned.
Dr Athina Zakynthinaki, Specialist Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, leads all assessments and makes every diagnostic decision.
For autism assessments, the ADOS observation session is conducted by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist or Occupational Therapist who is part of our multidisciplinary team. The ADI-R parental interview is conducted by Dr Athina Zakynthinaki.
The ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) is a standardised, structured observation of your child. It is presented as a series of activities and conversations — your child will not know they are being formally assessed.
The ADOS is conducted by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist or Occupational Therapist from our multidisciplinary team. The findings feed directly into the overall diagnostic report, which is led by Dr Athina Zakynthinaki.
The ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised) is a structured interview with parents or carers conducted by Dr Athina Zakynthinaki. It explores your child's developmental history, social communication, language, play, and any repetitive or restricted behaviours. It takes approximately two hours and is conducted without your child present, so you can speak openly.
School observations are a required part of both ADHD and autism assessments. For ADHD, symptoms must be present across more than one setting to meet diagnostic criteria. For autism, how your child presents in a structured social environment is an essential part of the picture.
We provide questionnaires for teachers to complete — these typically take around 15–20 minutes and can be done online.
For home-educated children, we accept information from tutors, coaches, or other professionals who work regularly with your child in a structured setting. Please let us know when you register and we will advise on the best approach.
School input is a required part of the assessment process. If your school is reluctant, we recommend speaking to the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) directly and explaining that the questionnaire is part of a clinical assessment. We can provide a letter to the school explaining what is involved if that would help. Please contact us and we will support you with this.
Dr Athina Zakynthinaki is registered with BUPA, Aviva, Vitality, Allianz, Cigna, and WPA.
For consultations, we can bill your insurer directly — please obtain a pre-authorisation code before booking. For ADHD and autism assessments, payment is made by families at the time of assessment and we provide a full invoice for you to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
Each assessment fee covers the full appointment, the diagnostic report, and any letters or prescriptions agreed during the session.
Clinical work outside of appointments — such as additional reports, prescription requests, or extended correspondence — may incur a separate administration fee. We will always let you know in advance if this applies.
Please contact us directly to discuss your circumstances. We understand that assessment fees are a significant investment for families and we will do our best to help where we can.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full details of our cancellation policy. We ask for as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or rearrange, as appointment slots are limited. Late cancellations may be subject to a fee.
You will receive a detailed diagnostic report with recommendations for support at home, at school, and beyond. A 30-minute feedback session with Dr Athina Zakynthinaki is included to discuss the findings and agree next steps.
For ADHD, if medication is appropriate, we can arrange an ADHD Treatment Package. For autism, we will outline interventions and support pathways suited to your child's specific needs.
A report is still provided even if no diagnosis is made. It includes the clinical findings, the reasoning behind the diagnostic decision, and any recommendations for further support or monitoring. Dr Athina Zakynthinaki will discuss the results with you and help guide you on appropriate next steps.
Yes. Dr Athina Zakynthinaki provides a complimentary email communication service to all her patients following their appointments. This is available for straightforward queries. More complex clinical work outside of appointments may incur a separate administration fee.
Yes. Letters to schools and GPs that are agreed during your appointment are included in the fee. Additional letters requested after the appointment may incur an administration fee. Please discuss this with Dr Athina Zakynthinaki during your session.
An EHCP is applied for through your local authority, not through us. However, a diagnostic report from Child Psychiatry Consultancy can form an important part of your supporting evidence when applying. We can provide a supporting letter if required. Please visit our Resources page to download an EHCP letter template.
